time to rack up some new bills...

Postby grapenehi » Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:46 am

payed off my credit cards with the old income tax return... now, it might be time to treat myself to a new guitar... been checking out some of those middle of the road strats and teles, nothing too fancy, just want a nice guitar... then today i spotted a jazzmaster special in the musicians friend catalog... it's going for around $800 bucks, anyone have any experience with one of these??? just caught my eye, and really appealed to me... thinking its probably not the most versatile guitar, but what do y'all think???

I don't think you can go wrong with either of this sweet-looking axes. I guess it just comes down to what sound you're looking for...Good luck!

I've got the tele, but in ash, and NeilM (lord summerisle) has got the jazzmaster... both excellent guitars, both feature heavily in most modern music videos. I love my tele though, i reckon you could drop it every day and it would never break. I'm pretty sure Neil loves his jazz!

those are both nice axes for sure. i think you'd be happier in the long run with a tele though. they're just such a versatile guitar, and no matter where your muse takes you, they can follow.

I was actually considering that exact same Jazzmaster for awhile now. Came very close to buying it. I'd really need to play one first to make sure that it's close to what I'm used to.
I ended up chickening out because I have a hard time replacing things that aren't broken. My Fernandes Native may have it's issues...but I've used it for pretty much everything for the past 10 years and it has served me well. I think it'd have to be in pieces in front of me before I'd get something else.

For those that have experience with the Jazzmasters ( I think this is a Mexican made one...amirite?) do they hold up ok?? Pretty versatile?? I'd never get a tele or a strat...so this seemed like it might be closer to what I've got now.

It was between the Jazzmaster and an Ibanez Artcore Semi-Hollow for about the same price. The Artcores hold up extremely well. With some tinkering and pickup replacement it could sound incredible. Inevitably it was one of those "paralysis by analysis" situations and I never did anything. This thread is making me reconsider the Jazzmaster though.

I can't do anything with that toad unless it has EMG's in it...and the neck is scalloped. Otherwise...no dice. How could any self respecting person do their Bm Diminished arpeggios on that?

I'm sure we could work that out.

BTW, I'm typing this on a scalloped keyboard....why there are no mistakes.

I bet you're cranking at 110wpm on that piece of equipment. Could you connect me to the luthier who did the work on it? I have a Blackberry and a Refrigerator door handle that I would very much like to have scalloped.

I like the idea of the build-your-own kits on there....sometime when I get a windfall, I may have to build me a Les Paul or a Flying V.

if i built my own guitar i would get it all wrong and go into a homer simpson-esque rage and it would probably end up looking like this!
